The quarterback’s deal has some of the biggest incentives in the whole league.

Incentives in the NFL that are highly successful but rarely discussed are roster bonuses. They are used by teams to preserve cap space and maintain player satisfaction. But as is frequently the case, certain players are content more than others, and Dak Prescott is one of those individuals.

A player must be on his team’s active roster on the date stated in his contract in order to receive his roster bonus. March 18th is that date for a number of NFL players, including the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys.

For Prescott, the 2023 season was largely fulfilling. He gained 4,516 yards, completed 36 touchdown passes, was intercepted nine times, and completed 410 passes out of 590 attempts. Although he guided his team to the postseason, the Green Bay Packers ousted him in the super wild-card round.

Though there has been some tension between the signal-caller and the Cowboys management office lately, the key factor here is that he showed up on the scheduled day and is free of injuries that would keep him off the primary roster.

How much is Prescott’s roster bonus?

The second-highest bonus to be paid on this date is Prescott’s. The Cowboys quarterback’s payment of $5 million is only slightly less than wide receiver Mike Evans of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ $10 million. Mark Andrews, a tight end for the Baltimore Ravens, will receive $4 million.

Prescott’s current contract is for $160 million over four years, with a guarantee of $126 million, a $66 million signing bonus, and an average salary of $40 million each year.

The signal-caller will make $29 million in 2024, but he will have a $55.5 million cap hit. The Cowboys are attempting to rework the contract with the player because, should he leave, they would still be responsible for a $66.9 million dead cap.
