Ronald Darby, the new cornerback for the Jacksonville Jaguars, didn’t need much convincing in free agency to re-join Doug Pederson’s team.

“It was not just a phone conversation. Of course, I played with Doug [Pederson]. Before, we were successful. I had no trouble returning to play for him because he’s an excellent coach,” Darby remarked this week at the Miller Electric Center.

“Once my agent informed me, there was no such thing as, I dunno, I was like, ‘Okay, I’m down.'” My agent completed it.

After spending 2023 with the Baltimore Ravens, where he started seven games, appeared in sixteen, and started two playoff games, Darby inked a two-year contract with the Jaguars. Darby recorded 28 tackles, one tackle for loss, and seven interceptions of passes in the regular season.

Darby had an obvious connection to Pederson, the Jaguars’ staff member who coached him in Philadelphia from 2017 to 2019.

Darby remarked, “I’ve been saying it all day—he’s a straightforward coach.”

All you could ask for in a coach, that is. He will ensure that you put in a lot of effort and that tasks are completed in the proper manner. Like the players, he enjoys winning. I believe in his plans, and he’s a successful coach.

The Buffalo Bills selected Darby, 30, in the second round of the 2015 draft. He played for the Eagles for three seasons, the Bills for two, the Denver Broncos for two, the Washington Commanders for one, and the Ravens for one season.

Darby has accumulated 401 tackles, 9 tackles for loss, 97 pass breakups, and 8 interceptions in nine seasons.

“I got a background of playing man, that’s what I came into the league doing, that’s what I did all through college and all through my career,” Darby stated.

“I went to different places, we ran different systems, and I became more proficient at it. Playing man has always been my top priority. Since I was always a run-away from my Buffalo days, I didn’t really need to be convinced to buy anything.
