It’s finally time for Tyron Smith to retire from the Dallas Cowboys uniform. After agreeing to a one-year contract with the New York Jets, the seasoned offensive tackle is now bringing his skills to the AFC East division.

Smith has been a member of Dallas’ roster for more than ten years, so it makes sense that he is experiencing a range of emotions as he makes a change in his career.

Tyron Smith bids the Cowboys nation farewell.

For Smith, it’s more than simply a job. Contracts and numbers alone cannot sum up his lengthy tenure with the Cowboys. During his time in Arlington, he forged close relationships with the players, coaching staff, and, of course, the supporters. This is also the reason it makes sense for him to write Dallas a heartfelt parting letter, which he also shared on his own Instagram account.

“Humble, Cowboy Nation, I’m not even sure where to start. Thirteen years is definitely a long time to summarize in a little message to hundreds of people who have contributed to my very special Dallas experience. Cowboy Nation, you have all supported me along this long and crazy journey that has been full of ups and downs.

Smith also took some time to reflect on how he began his NFL career with the Cowboys, who selected him as the ninth overall pick in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

“I was fortunate enough to be granted the chance to play with the Dallas Cowboys in 2011 as a young player out of USC. My only goal has been to give this organization, my teammates, and the fans all I have since the day I was chosen. I enjoyed being a Cowboy and building ties with individuals that will always be a part of my life over the years.

Smith is one of the Cowboys’ greatest players ever when he leaves the team. Smith became a two-time First Team All-Pro, three-time Second Team All-Pro, and eight-time Pro Bowler while playing for Dallas. In addition, he was selected for the 2010s NFL All-Decade Team.

Now that he’s with the Jets, Smith and New York need to hope he stays healthy so he can assist in keeping Aaron Rodgers safe in the pocket in addition to protecting Dak Prescott.
