Chase Young Break Silence After $13 million Deal With New Orleans Saints

Chase Young is going to switch from one possible future defensive line Hall of Fame colleague to another.

According to reports cited by ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday, the former defensive end for the San Francisco 49ers and the New Orleans Saints have agreed to a one-year, $13 million contract. Young will now play in the Bayou alongside Saints defensive end Cam Jordan after previously playing in the Bay Area with fellow defensive end Nick Bosa, a former teammate from Ohio State.

“A guy who I can hang out with and learn the game from, a future hall of famer.” Big Cam has me very thrilled, Young declared on Monday through Boot Krewe Media.

Jordan, an eight-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro, has long been regarded as one of the NFL’s hardest edge rushers. Bosa, who has already made four Pro Bowl trips and been named an All-Pro, has also been a force in his brief career.

Young thinks the Saints have a lot of potential in 2024 and beyond, aside from Jordan. This is true even though quarterback Drew Brees hasn’t played in the playoffs since retiring.

Simply the culture. It has a successful culture. That’s what I wanted to be around,” Young stated on Monday, as reported by Nick Underhill of the New Orleans Football Network.

As an individual, Young seemed to be following in Jordan’s footsteps when he initially entered the league as the second overall choice in 2020 with Washington. Young led Washington to the postseason in his rookie season, recording 44 sacks, 7.5 sacks, and three fumble recoveries while winning Defensive Rookie of the Year.

When he suffered an ACL tear in November 2021, his career took a setback. Young had a fairly quiet three games following this return in 2023 with five tackles, although his play had already begun to flag before then with 26 tackles, two forced turnovers, and 1.5 sacks in nine games.

Prior to being moved to San Francisco by the Commanders, Young had five sacks and fifteen tackles in seven games in 2023. During the 2023 trade deadline, Washington also dealt fellow defensive end Montez Sweat to the Chicago Bears.

In nine 49ers regular season games, Young recorded 10 tackles and 2.5 sacks; in three playoff run games, he recorded 8 tackles and a sack. He was spared from doing it all with Bosa, Javon Hargrave, and Arik Armstead, the now-former defensive lineman for the Niners.

San Francisco was struggling to hold onto Young due to his possible contract value going into the summer. Currently, the 49ers have $1.93 million in salary cap space available, but throughout the majority of the offseason, the team has been over the cap.

Even though Young had experience prior to coming to San Francisco, head coach Kyle Shanahan wasn’t quite satisfied with what he initially saw.

In a press conference held in November 2023, Shanahan stated, “We try to have strength in numbers with our D-line.” “We make an effort to keep them new.”

“And adding Chase has been really beneficial for our group, which benefits everyone else.” Furthermore, Shanahan stated, “He is talented enough on his own to make the plays as well. He has been given those opportunities and has fulfilled them.

The NFC Championship Game marked Young’s low point, as he clearly failed to complete the task at hand. He ended with three tackles but gave up a touchdown due to a missed tackle.

According to NBC Sports Bay Area, Young stated in February, “I can’t have that.” “That is absolutely not acceptable on the field. particularly if your goal is to lead this league’s defense.
