If the 49ers decide to alternate Brandon Aiyuk, they will do it before the draft, right?

Yes, that’s my sense. Just go back two years to when Deebo Samuel was once agitating for a trade.

The 49ers saved their telephone lines open before, and especially during, the draft to see what variety of affords Samuel would bring. They bought draft-day proposals from the New York Jets and Detroit Lions, but the 49ers didn’t budge.

They were solid affords (especially the Jets’) however the 49ers needed to be blown away to let go of Samuel, who was coming off his excellent 2021 campaign.

I suppose a comparable state of affairs is in play for Aiyuk, who has outstanding chemistry with Brock Purdy.

The 49ers will hear to offers but it will take something huge to let him go

I prefer to keep Aiyuk. But considering the 49ers probably don’t have 31 guys with first-round grades — if they may want to get a first-round pick out for BA, would it make experience to package deal those two options to go into Malik Nabers/Marvin Harrison Jr./Rome Odunze territory? — Jake S.
