During the 2023 season, the Cowboys were among the better teams. And they made everyone’s hopes rise as they confidently advanced to the postseason.

Then, despite their best efforts, they were defeated by the Green Bay Packers in the actual Wild Card Round. They would have been two steps away from making their first Super Bowl appearance in nearly thirty years if they hadn’t!

It’s obvious that the franchise is having issues. Stephen A. Smith emphasizes in the most recent First Take edition how the Cowboys lost the chance to perform better in the 2024 campaign.

Stephen blasts Jerry Jones for missing out on Bill Belichick

Stephen A. Smith made a strong case in his essay. The Dallas Cowboys lost out on a fantastic chance to sign Bill Belichick.”They ought to have taken Bill on.” It’s not as though Mike McCarthy ought to have been dismissed for the team’s playoff defeat to Green Bay. He claimed that Mike McCarthy ought to have left since there was a six-time Super Bowl champion available who is the complete opposite of everything that is going on in Dallas at the moment.

Smith asserts that the issue went beyond the Cowboys’ playoff loss to Green Bay. The real problem, he claimed, was that there was a coach of Belichick’s caliber—a tactician who had won six Super Bowls—available. Does that imply that he believes Mike McCarthy cannot be the head coach of the Cowboys? He was not in agreement. It’s not that Mike is a nasty guy; rather, he just prefers Bill Belichick over McCarthy.

Jerry Jones is getting a very clear message from Smith: the Cowboys need someone like Belichick to “discipline” the team. Dallas will continue to pay a heavy price for this lack of leadership. Furthermore, the Cowboys have more than just the HC issue to deal with. And there’s the QB query. Stephen also added his thoughts to that.

Do the Cowboys have an option?

With three Pro Bowl appearances, an NFL All-Pro selection, the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year award, and five postseason seasons under his belt, Dak Prescott has amassed an amazing résumé. The trip hasn’t been without its challenges, though. Under Prescott’s leadership, the Cowboys have not yet advanced to an NFC championship game. Additionally, he has a below-average 2-5 postseason record.

Dan Orlovsky of ESPN boldly stated on First Take that the Cowboys ought to have a significant makeover. Orlovsky pushed for a fresh start after the devastating defeat to Green Bay, arguing that both the QB and HC roles needed to be changed.

Stephen A. Smith adopted an alternative position.”I’m thinking to myself, Alright, who will I get in exchange for him if I get rid of him? Who has the solution? That’s the way you have to think, D.O., because someone needs to be the quarterback.

Could Prescott lead the Cowboys to their first Super Bowl participation in almost thirty years as he prepares for his ninth NFL season amid contract negotiations? Will the team perform worse without Bill Belichick? Can Prescott help Mike McCarthy guide the squad to a Super Bowl victory?
