Beware of Brock Purdy: 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan Sends Strong Warning to Other NFL Teams
The NFL has been forewarned by San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan that Brock Purdy might be even better the following season.
In his rookie season as a 49ers starter, Purdy led the NFL in several statistical categories, including quarterback ratings.
Purdy began the last five games of the regular season as a rookie after being selected with the final pick of the 2022 draft, following the injuries to Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance. After leading the Niners to the NFC Championship game against the Philadelphia Eagles, he suffered a right elbow injury that hindered his throwing motion and had an effect on his summer.
Although Purdy recovered well to lead the team to Super Bowl LVIII the previous season, Shanahan has noted that Purdy should make even more progress this year as he is receiving a full offseason program.
Repetition is the key to everything. At the Annual League Meeting in Orlando, Shanahan told the NFL Network, “You can learn it right away, (but) it’s about going through it.”
“Brock has experienced a lot in these games over the past two years, which has been fantastic for him. However, practicing and simply drilling something over and over again is how you improve. Getting that 10,000 reps is the main goal.
“He was only concerned with having his arm healthy during the entire previous year, even though he knew what had to be done. Now that he knows what needs to be done, he can focus on strengthening his arm, footwork, and head this offseason. simply performing the reps.”
Even while Purdy has so far greatly exceeded expectations in San Francisco, Shanahan continued, additional progress is anticipated.
“The standard changes when you do that,” Shanahan remarked. “As soon as they notice you’re in the club, people will try to figure out where you are. In actuality, it never ends.
That is the weight bearing down on those individuals. Because they have to work for it, that explains why it’s the highest paying employment.
Brock has been doing that for the last two years. He has been amazing. Each and every week, he has performed it.
After an extremely difficult injury in his rookie season, he has recovered. I’ve had an incredible year. We haven’t really had an offseason yet. I’m excited to mentor him.”
