Xabi Alonso Alonso has ‘decided’ on Liverpool move

Following the announcement that iconic German head coach Jurgen Klopp will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the 2023–2024 season, the Reds have been looking at possible managerial candidates to take over for him.

After winning the Carabao Cup, Klopp now intends to finish his final campaign with a second Premier League trophy and a Europa League crown. After all, he has nearly all the hardware to win on Merseyside.

The selection of Klopp’s replacement is now necessary for Liverpool because the current season is almost over. Journalist Ben Jacobs recently revealed to GIVEMESPORT (March 25) that Xabi Alonso, the manager of Bayer Leverkusen, is looking to return to the team where he played for several successful years.

He will wait to see what the Reds have to offer. The 42-year-old is having a fantastic season at Leverkusen, where his team is leading the Bundesliga by ten points and is awaiting a rematch with West Ham United in the domestic cup semifinal and the Europa League quarterfinal.

Florian Plettenberg, a writer for Sky Sport Germany, recently asserted, meanwhile, that Alonso would prefer a transfer to Bayern Munich over a move to Liverpool, with the Bavarian powerhouses also seeking a new head coach prior to the upcoming campaign. At the end of the current season, the defending Bundesliga winners will split ways with head coach Thomas Tuchel.

In spite of this assertion, Richard Keys, in his weekly blog, notes that he is aware that Alonso has chosen to rejoin Liverpool over Bayern. The host of beIN Sports acknowledges that the process could go awry, but he makes a suggestion that he anticipates the Spaniard to be on Merseyside come season’s end:

“When I communicate news like this, I always stress that major deals like this might go wrong. When they’re blue riband, everything can go wrong, whether it’s with a player, coach, or manager, but from what I hear, Alonso has chosen Liverpool.”
