The Dallas Cowboys have allowed a number of players to leave in free agency, but the news of a recent departure’s contract specifics isn’t sitting well with supporters.

Though it’s not always possible for a team to spend to get a player back, in the instance of former Cowboys DT Jonathan Hankins, it was obvious that they didn’t want him on the team.

Brady Henderson of ESPN revealed the specifics of Hankins’ new contract with the Seattle Seahawks on March 25. Hankins’ salary just above the minimum required by the league.

Henderson posted on X, “A source tells me that the Seahawks’ deal with DT Jonathan Hankins is for one year and $2.05M with $300K guaranteed.” “Hankins received a $1.24 million base salary, a $300,000 signing bonus, and $510,000 in game bonuses.”

Cowboys supporters did not immediately respond favorably to the information that had been made public.

The Dallas fan base responded even more angrily when it was revealed that 2023 first-round pick DT Mazi Smith would require 4-6 months to recuperate from shoulder surgery.

“And Mazi has an injury? They were aware of this? He will miss OTAs and mini-camp because he needs to make the big jump from season 1 to season 2, but we were unable to acquire DJ Reader or Jonathan freaking Hankins. “I can’t stand these Jones supporters,” Cowboys supporter @IntheClutch75 said on X.

Media, Fans Pile on Jerry Jones

The Cowboys’ depth problem at DT now that Hankins is free to depart is just fueling the rumors. Without a doubt, this is a mistake for RJ Ochoa of Blogging the Boys.

On X, Ochoa wrote, “The Dallas Cowboys do not deserve to be an NFL team.”

However, Kevin Gray Jr., host of 97.1 The Freak, doesn’t think the Cowboys were “priced out” on Hankins.

On March 25, Gray said, “Cowboys are down bad, they couldn’t afford this for Johnathan Hankins GTFOH #DallasCowboys.”

There are others who disagree that the Cowboys made a mistake. Dan Rogers, a writer for Blogging the Boys and Ochoa’s colleague, countered that Mike Zimmer, the new defensive coordinator, simply didn’t want Ochoa in his system.

“Everyone seems incredibly irritated that Jerry chose not to stand up for Hankins.” Big Hank is my favorite. “I would have returned him,” Rogers penned.”What many fail to realize, though, is that the Cowboys would have re-signed Hankins if Mike Zimmer had desired him for his defense. It provides all the information we require.

Cowboys DT Undergoes Major SurgeryMazi Smith will be recovering from shoulder surgery for the next few months, as was previously announced. Luke Schoonmaker, a tight end with the Cowboys and a projected second-round pick in 2023, too underwent a shoulder surgery and will also be out from OTAs and minicamp.

Speaking about the matter, Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy predicted that Smith would have a successful second seaso

McCarthy stated, “Mazi underwent shoulder surgery.” “He’s currently going through a time of rehab. He’s undoubtedly one of the people that needs to make the significant transition to his second year, and I believe he wil

To put things in perspective, Smith’s 2023 stat line included just 13 tackles and 1 sack. Despite participating in every one of the team’s 17 regular-season games, he only accounted for 28% of defensive snaps.
