Even though Deion Sanders is no longer formally a member of the Dallas Cowboys, he still has a strong devotion to the group.
This was made clear when he recently met up with seasoned CB Stephan Gilmore, which raised questions about the gifted player’s future.
Sanders posted a picture from his meeting with Gilmore on social media along with a seemingly direct message for the Cowboys. Sanders posted on Instagram, saying, “I got a Special visit today from a Future HOF’er and his sons @BumpNrunGilm0re.”
“Dallas Stop Playing.” Sanders is obviously pushing for the Cowboys to take action and re-sign Gilmore for the following campaign.
After winning Defensive Player of the Year in 2022, Gilmore had a big impact in his first season with the Cowboys in 2023. He recorded an outstanding 68 tackles, 13 passes defended, and two interceptions. Cowboys executive Stephen Jones made a suggestion that re-signing Gilmore might not be the team’s top priority right now, despite the player’s impressive performance.
“You just have to decide where you want to use your resources,” Jones clarified. According to The Landry Hat, “Stephon was not only a great asset to us on the field, but I’d say a better guy off the field in terms of how he goes about his business, just being a pro, helping the young guys.”
Dallas has had a terrible offseason
Jones’s comment captures the team’s predicament in making the most use of their resources. Jones expressed hope for Gilmore’s future aspirations and left the door open for a possible return to the Cowboys, all the while appreciating Gilmore’s on-field prowess and off-field influence. He said, “I hope things go well for him and he was nothing but very productive for us and we don’t ever rule that out, either.”
Trevon Diggs, DaRon Bland, and Jourdan Lewis are just a few of the Cowboys’ talented cornerbacks. The choice over Gilmore’s future with the organization becomes even more intriguing given the wealth of talent at the position. It’s unclear where Gilmore will end up for the next season, leaving fans to anxiously see how this all plays out.
