Arik Armstead is pulling back the curtain on his departure from the San Francisco 49ers, which paved the way for him to ink a three-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

“A lot has happened this offseason,” Armstead shared during a chat on his Third And Long Podcast.

“I”m no longer with the 49ers. I have a new team. First off, I want to say I don”t have any animosity toward the organization, Kyle Shanahan, John Lynch, the York family. I did feel extremely disrespected. They extended an offer to me for ____ million dollars after nine years of me being there. The fans deserve to know what happened. I had to make some decisions.”

The former first-round pick, who was first selected by Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke in 2015 while they were both in San Francisco, completed a nine-year tenure with the 49ers.

Armstead only made twelve appearances during the regular season last year due to injuries, but he still finished with five sacks and around sixty pressures.

During his nine-year tenure, Armstead had 116 appearances, 97 of which were starts. He recorded 33.5 sacks, 43 tackles for loss, and 88 quarterback hits.

Former 49er Star Arik Armstead Felt ‘Totally Disrespected’ By San Francisco 49ers Organization before Leaving For Jacksonville Jaguars

This week, Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson offered his assessment on Armstead’s value.

To begin with, he has a ton of experience under his belt. Trent [General Manager Trent Baalke] drafted him in San Francisco, so he knows him well. Pederson said, “The guy’s been a stud for them.”

Josh Allen, a fifth-year student, and Travon Walker, a youthful second-year student entering his third, are the two that we have.

This is a player who, in my opinion, can both assist Travon develop further and, by providing the necessary elements for the plan that [Defensive Coordinator] Ryan Nielsen wants to use, give us what we need.

Like Travon, he is capable of playing defensive end and moving inside on third down. He is capable of playing end and moving inside, among other things. Then you include Josh, DaVon Hamilton, and [DL] Roy Robertson-Harris in there.

There”s a forming of a potentially good defensive line by adding a guy like Arik and his credentials, his work ethic, and just the amount of football and where he”s played.”
