The quarterback room for the Pittsburgh Steelers was horrible the previous season. Although quarterback Mason Rudolph had a strong run of games towards the conclusion of the season, the team didn’t seem to have the answer at quarterback overall.

Omar Khan, the general manager of the Steelers, made the decision this offseason to completely restructure the quarterback room, trading for quarterback Mitchell Trubisky and releasing Kurt Rudolph.

The Steelers traded for quarterback Justin Fields and signed quarterback Russell Wilson to replace them. Despite its recent difficulties, Wilson and Fields are both low-risk, high-reward investments. According to Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report, the Steelers shouldn’t be in a panic as a result of the transactions.

“There’s a not-so-wild chance Justin Fields steps up to the plate in a new setting and a similar chance Russell Wilson puts it back together in a new spot,” Gagnon wrote. All things considered, there’s a good likelihood the Steelers now have their guy on the field.

Despite being 35 years old, Wilson has stated that he hopes to play for at least five more years. Depending on how Wilson performs this season, Pittsburgh may decide to conduct more business with him. Although Wilson was benched towards the conclusion of the season, he still managed to throw for 3,070 yards, 26 touchdowns, and just eight interceptions.

It is noteworthy that he routinely placed the ball in the end zone, something the Steelers quarterbacks struggled to do previous season, even though statistics may not often tell the whole picture.

Fields, meanwhile, is far younger—just 25 years old. Although Fields’ play has not been particularly strong overall, he has occasionally displayed moments of brilliance. Wilson and Fields both have the ability to be explosive playmakers at quarterback for Pittsburgh.

Fields and Wilson both have lofty ceilings. The Steelers can easily find a way to keep at least one of them for the future if they so choose, even though their contracts are only good for this season.

Both have the potential to be better than Rudolph or Pickett, even though they haven’t played well over the last two years compared to Pittsburgh.

The Steelers hope that their summer actions this offseason address their need to address the quarterback position if they wish to contend for Super Bowls. There isn’t much worry in Pittsburgh or the NFL right now with the Steelers quarterback room; we won’t know if they do until September.
