Foye Oluokun Inks New 4-Year, $45M Deal with Jaguars During Free Agency – Sports Al Dente

Linebacker Foye Oluokun of the Jacksonville Jaguars has agreed to a new, long-term contract, securing his future with the team.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports that Oluokun’s new contract is valued at $45 million and runs for four years. With this deal, which includes a $22.5 million signing bonus, Oluokun is essentially bound to the Jaguars through the end of the 2027 campaign.

The deal was reached when Oluokun was about to enter the last year of a prior three-year, $45 million deal he had signed with the Jaguars in March 2022. Notably, the prior agreement included three vacant years from 2025 to 2027 and no leftover guaranteed money.

The Jaguars see this new agreement as having two uses. It not only makes Oluokun a more permanent member of the squad, but it also lessens his significant salary cap charge for the next year. Oluokun’s $21.8 million cap charge currently places him fourth on the team behind Christian Kirk, Josh Allen, and Cam Robinson.

When Josh Allen signs a long-term contract, his own cap hit should go down. Due to the franchise tag, which he has not yet legally accepted for the 2017 season, he currently has a $24 million cap allotment.

Oluokun has had a significant impact on the pitch, which is especially clear given his abundance of tackling ability. He has continuously amassed great tackle totals dating back to his final season with the Atlanta Falcons in 2021, surpassing 173 in each of the previous three seasons.

He was notable for leading the league in tackle totals in 2022 (184) and 2021 (192). His defensive strength is demonstrated by the fact that he has more solo tackles than any other player in the NFL over the last two seasons (239 total).

The Jaguars have a strong defensive base thanks to Oluokun’s presence and standout performances from guys like Josh Allen and Travon Walker, who combined for 27.5 sacks last season.

In the future, the team could establish themselves as strong competitors in the AFC South and challenge the Houston Texans for the top spot in the division if they can take advantage of a promising draft to address further areas of need.
