Current Liverpool rumors and news as the team continues to await the injury recovery of Joel Matip, Wataru Endo, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Jota, Alisson Becker, Stefan Bajcetic, and Thiago Alcantara.

Following further drama in the Premier League title battle, Liverpool is getting ready for another busy weekend.

This Sunday’s matchup between the Reds and their fierce rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford is crucial to their hopes of winning the Premier League title. After defeating Sheffield United 3-1 thanks to goals from Darwin Nunez, Alexis Mac Allister, and Cody Gakpo, Liverpool enters the match in high spirits.

The Reds will take on United, one of their fiercest rivals, in another test that Jurgen Klopp and company are looking forward to. Just three weeks prior, Liverpool traveled to Old Trafford to take on Erik ten Hag’s team in the FA Cup quarterfinals. United prevailed 4-3 in overtime.

Due to injuries, Liverpool will have to leave a number of its star players out of the match versus United. In preparation for Sunday’s match against Manchester, here is a summary of the Reds’ current injury list.

Wataru Endo

Wataru Endo was injured during last week’s victory over Brighton, and as a result, he was unable to play against Sheffield United. According to Jurgen Klopp, there is a “big chance” that the Japan international will make a comeback for the match against Manchester United.

Klopp stated, “We rested him today,” following the Blades match. “We felt that he might have had a chance for tonight, but there’s a good opportunity for Sunday if we don’t include him. That remains unchanged.

Potential return date: Manchester United (A) – April 7

Alisson Becker

Due to a hamstring injury, Alisson Becker has been sidelined for the past two months.

In recent weeks, the Brazilian has intensified his recuperation and is getting closer to playing again. Alisson will shortly resume team training, according to Klopp, although he did not specify when he would rejoin the matchday roster.

“No Alisson, he is with the goalkeeper coaches and I just see them through the fence but he looks good but in his mind as well, next week he will be part of team training,” Klopp stated on April 3.

Trent Alexander-Arnold

For most of 2024, Trent Alexander-Arnold has been convalescing from a knee injury.

The vice captain of the Reds is getting close to playing again after missing out on team action on February 10. Alexander-Arnold may resume training in the coming days, Klopp said earlier this week.

“The boys are doing well, Diogo [Jota] and Trent [Alexander-Arnold] are together in a group which helps both but it just looks like next week hopefully in parts of team training and then we will see the rest,” Klopp stated on April 3.

Potential return date: Mid-April

Diogo Jota

Diogo Jota has been recuperating from a knee injury sustained against Brentford on February 17.

Joel Matip, a defender, had to have surgery to treat an ACL injury he suffered at the beginning of December.

Matip has intensified his recuperation during the past few weeks. In a statement earlier this week, Klopp stated that it is doubtful the defense will play again this year.

April 3: “He [Matip] is running,” stated Klopp. Yes, he detests it, but since he was hurt, this is the finest time for him since although it was really painful at first, he overcame it.

“It takes time, but he is pain-free now. There isn’t enough time in the season [for him to return].”

Thiago Alcantara has played just five minutes of football for Liverpool this season due to injury.

He suffered a hamstring injury after his brief cameo against Arsenal on February 4. It remains to be seen when Thiago will make a return to the matchday squadPotential return date: Unknown

After a difficult season on the sidelines due to injury, Stefan Bajcetic is getting close to joining the Liverpool team again.

Bajcetic has only appeared in two games for the Reds this season; the most recent one being in September. The midfielder is scheduled to return to first team practice the following week, according to Klopp.

“Stefan [Bajcetic] trains now fully with the U21s this week,” Klopp stated. “That implies that we will bring him to us for training the following week, and then we’ll see. He is a significant addition to the group returning.”

Potential return date: Mid-April

Ben Doak

Ben Doak has been recuperating from a knee injury he had in December while playing for Liverpool’s Under-21 team.

The 18-year-old has not yet resumed training, and the Reds have not stated when they anticipate Doak will be available once more. Whether Doak will play for Liverpool again this season is still up in the air.
