The Detroit Lions’ refusal to sign quarterback Jared Goff to a contract extension at this time may be cause for concern.

More realistically, it was never going to happen before or after the draft. This offseason, it’s evidently a top goal for the franchise, and Goff wants to stick around. The time will come; all that needs to be done is to get it done.

Given the rising cost of quarterbacks, Goff’s contract extension is getting more and more expensive. Charles Robinson of Yahoo! Sports has identified Kirk Cousins’ recent contract from the Atlanta Falcons as a possible additional element in the talks between the Lions and Goff.

Valenti Mike, 97.1 The Ticket proposed that Goff’s new contract may be modeled after Cousins’ four-year, $180 million deal.

Robinson offered Goff a somewhat greater price than Cousins received.

“The terms of Cousins’ contract with the Falcons will influence the Goff extension negotiations.” In addition to being younger (29), Goff has outperformed Cousins in the postseason. And the Lions quarterback’s annual salary, which previously appeared to be as high as $50 million, is now practically guaranteed.”

New Jared Goff contract projection confirms price Lions will pay to keep him

The 33rd Team’s Ari Meirov examined a few quarterbacks who should be on the lookout for contract extensions last week. Goff is going to be on that list automatically.

Another player in Detroit is Jarred Goff. When he was acquired in the Matthew Stafford deal, many questioned whether or not he was the starting quarterback. Is he the quarterback for Bridge?

Will they finally try to get someone else? The supporters adore him, and he has shown to be the right guy in Detroit. He almost led them to the Super Bowl last year, as we saw.

With Jared Goff, they’re all in.He’ll probably be in that group between Kyler Murray and Jalen Hurts. He will stay in Detroit for the long haul, whether it is $50 million annually or little less.”

Meirov’s calculations, which take into account new contracts for Dak Prescott and Tua Tagovailoa, indicate that Goff would rank seventh in the NFL in terms of annual average salary for quarterbacks ($49 million). In the end, the cost is increasing steadily, even if it has been said several times that Goff is able to command $50 million annually.

And after the 2024 season, the Lions will continue to pay him that amount or very nearly it, unless they have another plan at quarterback.
