With Dak Prescott approaching the last year of his deal, the Dallas Cowboys may have a contract conundrum.

Josina Anderson of CBS Sports reports that neither “imminent” negotiations nor contract offers for Prescott’s extension are in the works. It’s still possible to work out a new deal, but it’s also a real likelihood that Prescott may be playing his last season in Dallas.

Given this, FanSided’s Christopher Kline has put together a trade scenario in which, should Prescott choose to depart, the Cowboys would go after Derek Carr from the New Orleans Saints. Given Carr’s four Pro Bowl appearances, daring passes, and explosive plays, Kline thinks this may be the Cowboys’ best opportunity to get an established starter.

Because the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Atlanta Falcons are becoming formidable rivals in the NFC South, Kline speculates that the Saints may think about dealing Carr. He notes that Carr would be a good fit in New Orleans because the Saints’ new offensive coordinator, Clint Kubiak, is expected to implement some of Kyle Shanahan’s offensive scheme.

CBS Analyst says amid Dak Prescott's Uncertain Future Cowboys Could  replaced him With New Orleans Saints Superstar

In eight of his ten seasons as a starter, quarterback Derek Carr has passed for at least 21 touchdown passes. He has been a reliable performer in the NFL. Carr has a 72-87 overall record despite his consistent play, which begs the issue of whether he can consistently guide a club to victory.

Could Derek Carr be the answer for the Dallas Cowboys?

Due to the uncertainty surrounding Dak Prescott’s contract status, the Dallas Cowboys have begun to consider Derek Carr as a possible replacement.

Prescott’s future with the organization and the Saints’ assessment of their quarterback position determine whether a trade is possible. It will be intriguing to watch how these situations play out and whether a possible trade involving Derek Carr actually happens as the summer goes on.
