This week, reports surfaced indicating that Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are interested in signing Liverpool winger Luis Diaz to a new contract.

Luis Diaz has been persuaded by Javier Mascherano to turn off offers from other teams and stick with Liverpool.

Since his unexpected £50 million transfer from Porto in January 2022, Diaz has been successful. Throughout his 90 appearances for the Reds, the Colombian has netted 24 goals and assisted on another 10.

The 27-year-old signed a five-year contract, but according to a rumor that surfaced this week, he would now like to sign a new agreement.

This followed another story that claimed Barcelona and Paris Saint-German, who are finally going to lose Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid, were interested in signing the Reds winger.

That followed another story that claimed Barcelona and Paris Saint-German, who are finally going to lose Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid, were interested in signing the Reds winger.

Diaz, who shares an agent, Raul Costa, with Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim, who is the running to replace Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager this summer, has not spoken about his future. But Mascherano, who left the Reds for Barcelona in 2010, believes he should stay at Anfield.

“He is an excellent player who makes snap decisions, particularly in one-on-one duels. Actually, I believe he has found a team that perfectly suits him,” Mascherano said to Antena 2.

“If there is one thing that Liverpool has in common, it is their admiration for players who, like Diaz, give their all on the pitch and possess that strength. For this reason, I believe he is perfectly content where he is at.”

An extension for Diaz would add to the growing list of tasks for the team’s new FSG CEO of Football Michael Edwards and new sporting director Richard Hughes. Finding a successor for iconic manager Klopp, who will depart the team at the conclusion of the season, is their top priority.

However, they also need to resolve urgent contract issues. The contracts of captain Virgil van Dijk, vice captain Trent-Alexander Arnold, and top scorer Mohamed Salah are about to expire.
