Following Liverpool’s 1-0 Premier League loss against Crystal Palace, manager Jurgen Klopp alluded to the Reds’ mindset being impacted by their recent performance against Manchester United.

Liverpool has only won two of their previous five games, including two straight losses at Anfield in the past few days, following their 4-3 FA Cup loss to Man United.

Klopp hinted that his team was affected by the fact that they were unable to defeat their rivals twice despite having numerous opportunities in both games.

The manager remarked, “I’m not sure that, generally, how we dealt with the United games particularly helped.”

Three weeks after the FA Cup loss in extra time, Liverpool returned to Old Trafford determined to get revenge. Instead, they were restricted to a dismal 2-2 stalemate when the home team managed only one meaningful opportunity.

“The issues we had in the United games were entirely different from the things we had today (against Crystal Palace),” Klopp went on.

It’s true that our aims are given up too easily; this is perhaps a widespread issue. Regarding the game today, I stated what I said.

Thus, all of us—players included, myself included—obviously anticipated a response, and we observed one, indicating that we were not just marginally defeated in that game.

You could just see, so it didn’t help. In addition, we lost the previous game against United by a point.

Though he may be speaking in a little imperfect English, Klopp is attempting to convey that Liverpool’s current mental state is being negatively impacted by their performance in crucial games against rival teams.

We were praising this club earlier in the season for being similar to Liverpool’s past “mentality monsters,” as the Reds overcame a deficit to win 27 points thus far this year.

But the team’s persistent propensity to give up first is starting to catch up with them. It is nearly hard to win the league after trailing 21 times in a season.

Although Liverpool is still in the running for the Premier League title, Klopp’s dream ending at Anfield would require a swift turnaround from the Reds and their opponents.

Klopp suggests that the “catastrophe” at Man United has affected Liverpool’s mindset.
