Club veteran Steve Nicol believes that Victor Osimhen should be signed by Liverpool FC as a direct replacement for fellow African Mohamed Salah.
With less than 14 months remaining on his contract, the Egypt captain’s long-term future with the English Premier League’s biggest clubs is coming under growing scrutiny.
Osimhen, the standout striker for Nigeria, has made a name for himself as one of the best strikers in the world and is expected to depart SSC Napoli at the end of this season.
Nicol chose Osimhen when asked to select the player Liverpool should sign in lieu of Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland without taking financial considerations into account.
“Anybody up for it? The fact that Salah will be leaving, either this year or next, Osimhen,” Nicol said to ESPN. Nicol won four English league championships with Liverpool.
“I believe Osimhen would be a great addition to Liverpool.”
Salah has scored 23 goals from 37 competitive games for Liverpool, while Osimhen has scored 15 goals in 27 appearances for Napoli in all competitions.
