No one was prepared for the rapid and impressive sales of the new Detroit Lions jerseys.

There is no avoiding it. Marketing and selling new products to supporters is a major focus of the unveiling of the new jerseys and uniforms. This is the main cause of the Detroit Lions’ new jerseys being leaked by fans hours before the team’s presentation event.

Both supporters and detractors of the Lions’ recently reinstated alternate black jerseys appear to be in equal measure. Though a sizable number of the new white and Honolulu Blue jerseys are also flying off the shelves, it’s also reasonable to conclude that the new black jerseys have sold well and will continue to do so.

Lions president Rod Wood reaffirmed to SI.com’s Albert Breer this weekend what he had previously stated regarding the team’s new clothes.

“Our main goal was to pay tribute to our colors while adding a contemporary touch,” Wood said to Breer on Sunday night. We had grown weary of the gray jerseys. We also wanted to return to the block white numbers on the home shirts. Although it was difficult to view the numbers if you were seated in the stadium, the present ones nevertheless had a nice appearance. Thus, this was a means of paying tribute to the past while improving it for the fans.

It’s also reasonable to state that they’ve been warmly received. The night the jerseys were introduced, the Lions made over $1 million in sales from both online and the stadium store. On the night of the release, 5,400 black jerseys were sold at the team’s pro shop alone, so props to Campbell.”

Breer said that the new black jerseys were motivated by Dan Campbell. When he was appointed head coach of the Lions in 2021, he wanted the black alternative jerseys to be reinstated. After the NFC North title was won last year, Wood basically stated, “Win the division and we’ll talk.” The black jerseys are absolutely returning.

Players have been asking on social media how businesses might stock more of the new jerseys so that their friends and family can purchase them because they are selling so well. It is not surprising that it has been difficult to maintain an inventory of the new Lions jerseys, either online or in physical stores.
