Jacoby Windmon, a former linebacker for Michigan State, signed a free agent contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Even though offensive tackle Nick Samac was the only member of Michigan State football’s roster from the previous season to be taken in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Spartans still have a number of athletes that are receiving opportunities to play at the next level.

One of them is former Spartan linebacker Jacoby Windmon.

On Saturday, Michigan State football announced that Windmon had signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Windmon transferred from UNLV to play his last two years of college at Michigan State. Unfortunately, the prospect only began the Spartans’ first three games of the previous campaign before suffering an injury that kept him out of action for the remainder of the year.

Windmon started two games at linebacker and six at defensive end in his debut season as a Spartan. With six forced fumbles, he tied the program record for most in a single season. He led the country in this category. 49 tackles, 10.5 for loss, 5.5 sacks, and an interception were Windmon’s final-season totals.

Ten players from the previous season, including Windmon, took part in Michigan State’s 2024 Pro Day.

“(The scouts) put me at outside linebacker, which is kind of a combination of both (linebacker and defensive end),” Windmon stated. “I can demonstrate my versatility by being able to rush the quarterback and drop into coverage when necessary, which also helps with timing.

“I anticipate having a fantastic opportunity to pursue my passions. There is just one team that you have. The results I received today make me feel like I put myself in a very good spot, but I am also grateful for my family and applaud God for putting me in this situation.
