According to the rookie, Tyler Guyton was selected by the Cowboys before he could be drafted by two other teams via trade up.

In the initial round of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys managed to draw a lottery ticket.

When it was their turn, the¹ Cowboys evaluated their options and decided that, considering the players still available, accepting the Detroit Lions’ offer to go back five positions was worthwhile. Five spaces is five spots, but the odds are in your favor if you like a few guys at that position.

As far as we know, the Cowboys and the Lions reached an agreement to trade, and in the process, the Cowboys moved down five positions and acquired selection number 73 (they also traded Detroit their 2025 seventh-round pick). Tyler Guyton eventually heard America’s Team announce his name after waiting another thirty minutes.

Dallas appeared to have a good option in dealing down again while they were on the clock at 29, one that might have resulted in further draft picks. Gaining additional capital felt fantastic.

However, Tyler Guyton was chosen by the Cowboys to be drafted. Guyton says it’s a good thing they did since the Washington Commanders or New England Patriots might have reached him before them.

Tyler Guyton reveals why he rejected Commanders and Patriot to sign with Dallas Cowboys

In the end, if this is accurate, neither the Commanders nor the Patriots selected again in the first round, indicating that they either gave up on further candidates or thought none of them were worthy.

The Commanders’ involvement in this is intriguing not just because they are a division competitor but also because Dan Quinn, their head coach, has taken a considerable number of players and staff members from the Cowboys. Like they did with Al Harris, it appears the real Cowboys were able to hold him off this time.
