The Dallas Cowboys were expected to recruit a running back among their undrafted rookie free agents after selecting eight players in the 2024 NFL Draft and losing out on one of their main needs.

On the same day that they signed veteran running back Ezekiel Elliott, the Cowboys reached an agreement with Nathaniel Peat of Missouri.

The star of the post-draft additions, though, was Minnesota tight end Brevyn Spann-Ford, who appeared to be a strength for the Cowboys.

After a competitive bidding process, the 6-foot-7, 270-pound monster was signed by the Cowboys for a guaranteed $225,000 in addition to a $20,000 signing bonus.

Alongside him will be rising star Jake Ferguson, Luke Schoonmaker, a 2023 second-round pick, Noah Fant, and John Stephens Jr., who, but for an ACL tear, would have made the squad last season after an incredible training camp.

The highest grade he had remaining on the Cowboys board came in the fifth round. And before the draft was done, the Cowboys got to work trying to sign him.

Although he didn’t have many opportunities to catch passes, he was a powerful blocker for Minnesota and his presence as a red zone mismatch is obvious.

Alec Holler, a solid tight end out of Central Florida, is also being added by the Cowboys. There will be an absurd battle at the training camp for the four spots.

The following players were reportedly part of the Cowboys’ post-draft haul, in addition to Peat, Spann-Ford, and Holler: Cam Johnson of Northwestern; Corey Crooms of Minnesota; Denzel Daxon of Illinois defensive tackle; Byron Vaughns of Baylor; Jason Johnson of Central Florida; Brock Mognesen of South Dakota; Josh DeBerry of Texas A&M; Nevada safety; and Julius Wood of East Carolina.

Vaughns, an Eastern Hills native, declared before to the draft that it would be an honor to be able to play for the Cowboys.

Vaughns began his collegiate career at Texas, moved to Utah State, and ultimately completed his studies at Baylor.
