NFL execs offer huge praise for San Francisco 49ers using top pick on Ricky Pearsall: ‘He is going to be a great piece

According to a report compiled of comments from a number of NFL executives, league executives praised the San Francisco 49ers greatly for their unexpected selection of Florida standout Ricky Pearsall in the first round of the April draft.

The 49ers front staff entered the 2024 NFL Draft needing to apply the finishing touches to a recipe that is very nearly worthy of a Super Bowl triumph, as has been the case for the team in recent years. But there was also a lot of conjecture over the choice of a possible Deebo Samuel or Brandon Aiyuk substitute.

It’s widely believed around the league that Samuel is the clear favorite to be traded before training. Few, however, anticipated that the organization would select that potential replacement with their first pick in April. Experts agreed on draft night that the team overreached for Ricky Pearsall, despite the fact that he was a very talented player and would fit in well in San Francisco.

Apparently, a number of NFL execs also feel that way. Positive remarks about Pearsall were abundant when league executives’ opinions about how various teams are approaching the NFL Draft were published by The Athletic on Thursday.

One executive stated, “We loved that receiver.” “It’s likely a bit much for him in the first round, but it’s okay if they want to use his fifth-year option.”

Another executive asserted, “This guy can double up at the top of the break and not lose any speed in the speed turn, so he is going to be a great piece for [head coach Kyle Shanahan].” “And if they move Aiyuk or Deebo, it covers San Francisco.”

If the 49ers manage to retain both Aiyuk and Samuel, Pearsall might have a significant influence in 2024 during his debut campaign as a slot receiver.
