In 2024, Ezekiel Elliott won’t be wearing the same Cowboys jersey number.

Running back Ezekiel Elliott, who spent one season with the New England Patriots in 2023, returned to the Dallas Cowboys this offseason for a second stint with the team.

But when Elliott rejoins the Cowboys, there will be one significant difference.

He intends to stick with the No. 15 jersey he wore at Ohio State and with the Patriots last season, instead of taking back the No. 21 uniform he wore for his first seven seasons in the NFL.

Trey Lance, the quarterback, had worn No. 15 in 2023, but according to a team announcement, he has decided to forgo the numbers and wear No. 19 in 2024.

Elliott signed a one-year contract at a maximum of $3 million to return to Dallas. He joins Royce Freeman, Rico Dowdle, and Deuce Vaughn in the running backs room, where he should be able to contend for a large portion of the workload.

With 184 carries, 642 yards, and three rushing touchdowns in ’23—career lows—the 28-year-old had a disappointing season with the Patriots. Elliott recorded four seasons with over 1,000 running yards and 80 touchdowns in 103 games with the Cowboys between 2016 and ’22.
