Cowboys Send Strong Message on Dak Prescott’s Future Amid Rumors

According to the Cowboys, extending Dak Prescott’s contract is a top priority.

Although the Dallas Cowboys have not moved much to extend Dak Prescott’s contract, they remain certain that protecting their quarterback is still a “priority.”

Prescott, whose contract is about to expire, will have $55.4 million counted against the cap. According to a recent report by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, talks between Prescott and the Cowboys were “passive or even nonexistent.”

But in a Mad Dog Radio interview, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones stated that reaching an agreement with Prescott for an extension is a “priority.”

According to Jon Machota of The Athletic, Jones stated, “(Franchise QB contracts), they just take time.”

Prescott, who just finished in the Pro Bowl, will be 31 years old next season. He completed 4,516 passes for 36 touchdowns and 9 interceptions in the previous season. Prescott, in the Cowboys’ opinion, can take them to the Super Bowl.

“I mean, I have no doubt that Dak can lead us to victory. He carries out every task correctly. Without a doubt, he is this football team’s leader, according to Jones. He sustains everyone’s motivation during the off-season. He has everyone exercising and putting in the necessary effort to give themselves every chance to win a title.

We are lingering near the edge. To borrow a basketball metaphor, all we have to do is go up there, grab it, and dunk it in. We are lingering near the edge. All we need to do is finish the job.

NFL QB Dak Prescott Is Not Concerned About The Future

Prescott is not worried about his uncertain long-term future. Prescott has made all the correct comments when questioned about an extension and is concentrated on the upcoming campaign.

In April, during a charity event, Prescott stated, “I’m not going to say I fear being here or not.” To be quite honest with you, I have no fear of either scenario. I adore this game, I love to play it, and I love to improve both as a player and for my friends. It’s with the Dallas Cowboys at the moment. That’s the focal point, where I am, where I want to be. And once this season is over, we’ll assess our situation and see if that persists. and if not, we’ll proceed accordingly.

If a contract extension isn’t completed, Prescott might be lost by the Cowboys. After this year, Dallas is not allowed to utilize the franchise tag on him. Prescott has a no-trade policy as well.

Cowboys Claiming Salary Cap Prevented Signing of Derrick Henry

The Cowboys are thinking about giving extensions to a number of players in addition to Prescott. In addition, they must agree to long-term contracts with LB Michal Parsons and WR CeeDee Lamb, two players who are integral parts of the team.

According to Jones, the fact that such contracts were imminent stopped them from going after other big free agents, such as running back Derrick Henry. He later signed a contract with the Baltimore Ravens.

“We just didn’t have the money to allocate to that position in terms of where we were from a cap standpoint, knowing what we’re looking at with Dak [Prescott] and certainly Micah [Parsons] and CeeDee Lamb,” Jones said. “Our situation is just, you know, and no one ever wants to say it,” she continued. “We just didn’t have the resources to dedicate to that role, else Tony Pollard would have likely taken it by now. From a cap perspective, the previous year we had to lose Zeke [Elliott] and we hated to lose Tony Pollard. Furthermore, we just lacked the funding to dedicate to the running back position.

And we’re definitely trying to execute that more effectively so that it works well with the rest of our offensive lineup.

For Dallas, the running back position remains a major question mark.Elliott is returning to provide some seasoned, recognizable leadership. But he’s not the bell cow he used to be, and the Cowboys don’t have much depth. Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn, Royce Freeman, Malik Davis, and Snoop Conner join Elliott in the backfield.
