Ahead of the 2024 NFL season, the Detroit Lions have an amazing roster with few question marks, although there are several at the wide receiver position.

The Lions need more from third-year wide receiver Jameson Williams by 2024, but we don’t know what to expect from him either. In addition, with Josh Reynolds leaving in free agency, Detroit lacks consistent depth behind Williams and No. 1 receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.

In light of this, ESPN’s Bill Barnwell feels Robert Woods, a seasoned wide receiver, should be a part of a trade between the Lions and Houston Texans. Barnwell thinks it could be completed with just an exchange of Day 3 picks. These are his thoughts:

In free agency, Reynolds signed with the Broncos; the Lions have not yet found a replacement. The organization clearly has high expectations for Jameson Williams, having traded up to select the quick wide receiver in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

However, Williams has struggled on the field due to injuries and suspension. Additionally, he is a different kind of player than Reynolds. Donovan Peoples:Jones might fill in for Reynolds, but Detroit could use an additional experienced in this receiving group.

The Texans would only receive financial relief and a trade of Day 3 selections in exchange, but a move here might suit both teams if former Rams executive Brad Holmes, who is currently Detroit’s general manager, could convince Woods to accept a pay cut to the $1.5 million range.

Woods is not the same player he was when he was 32. Following a terrible 2022 season with the Titans, Woods finished with 426 receiving yards and one touchdown in 14 games with the Texans in the previous campaign. Woods isn’t much—if any—better than what the Lions already have at this point in his career.

However, if Woods is prepared to accept a lower pick and it just requires a late-round pick swap, the move might not be detrimental.
