Although Jarvis Landry is aiming for a possible comeback in Jacksonville, he has not been at his best since leaving Miami and Cleveland.
Louisiana native Jarvis Landry is focusing on the Jacksonville Jaguars this season after a dismal return to the New Orleans Saints.
In an attempt to secure a spot in the wide receiver room to prolong his NFL career for a minimum of one more season, the five-time Pro Bowler tested out for the team this week.
He’s not going to force anything, but he’s also not going to let his career end the way it did in New Orleans in 2022, stating, “Whatever’s in God’s hands, in his cards, I just kind of rock with that.”
Landry may have passed his prime playing years at age 31, but he still has faith in his ability to succeed if given the right circumstances.
Landry is making every effort to join the team, even running around catching receptions as a tryout player at the Jaguars’ rookie minicamp, since the Jaguars could be his next—and possibly his last—stop.
The football community was thrilled about what Landry had in store for his new squad, the Saints, when it was announced in 2022 that he would be joining his hometown team.
Sadly, his comeback did not go as expected; he concluded the season on injured reserve after playing in just nine games and receiving less than 300 yards receiving.
The Saints declined to extend Landry’s contract after his underwhelming season, and he missed the 2023 campaign in order to recuperate. Regarding his time away from the game, Landry said:
[Sitting out 2023 while he got healed] was difficult. I gained a lot of knowledge about the man, health, and related topics.
I stayed grounded by spending more time with my family. Though I have a strong support network, it’s nice to be back here.
This season, Landry appears prepared to return to the field, and he wants to finish his career better than he did in New Orleans. Refusing to allow his career finish the way it did in New Orleans is what the competitive in me says no.
Landry had a fantastic career with the Miami Dolphins and then the Cleveland Browns before his time in New Orleans.
He was dynamic, explosive, and successful. He was selected in the 2014 NFL Draft, and from 2015 to 2019, he was considered one of the best wide receivers in the league and was selected to the Pro Bowl.
Even in his early career, Landry has demonstrated leadership both on and off the field. The “It’s contagious bruh” scene from HBO’s Hard Knocks, where Landry railed at the Browns’ wide receiver room for being lethargic, will always go down as one of his most memorable moments.
With Brian Thomas Jr. as a rookie wide receiver, the Jaguars, a youthful club, would greatly benefit from that inner strength and seasoned mindset.
