The Seattle Seahawks, who hired Mike Macdonald as their new head coach, completely redesigned their defense.

In March, the Seahawks dismissed safety Quandre Diggs to make much-needed cap space available. Diggs’ $39 million deal was still in effect for another year.

This season, he was due a salary of $10.4 million with a $21.2 million cap hit. The Seahawks were able to release the veteran, 31, and save about $11 million in cap room for 2024.

After two months, Diggs is still a free agent. But Randy Mueller of The Athletic believes he’ll end up back with his old team, the Detroit Lions.

Mueller stated, “He hasn’t missed a game since 2019, and despite suffering a broken leg in the 2021 championship, he has played at least 97% of the defensive snaps in three consecutive seasons.”

“He finished the previous season with a career-high 95 tackles, his first-step quickness is still a plus, and most teams find him to be a strong match in zone coverage because of his instincts for reading and breaking on things from the post.

In fact, I believe it would make sense for him to go back to the Motor City, where he played for his first five years in the league.

The Lions have completely overhauled their secondary, particularly at corner, and a seasoned communicator might be the cure-all to stabilize the back end.

Given his previous links to the Lions and his high salary in Seattle, Diggs might be open to accepting a lower salary to join a contender.

He would blend right in with their new way of life under Dan Campbell. Over the course of the previous four plus seasons, the three-time Pro Bowler started 72 games for Seattle.

He had one interception, five passes defensed, and 95 total tackles in 2023. In the time he was in Seattle, he recorded eighteen interceptions.
