Six-year veteran Averett participated on a tryout basis in the Steelers rookie minicamp this past weekend and was signed as a result. In his 51 career games, Averett has made 27 starts.

His career total of 114 tackles includes 99 solo stops, 3 interceptions, and 23 passes defensed. After spending his first four seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, Averett was originally selected by them in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

For the Ravens, he made 44 appearances, starting 21 of them. While in Baltimore, he racked up 101 tackles, 22 passes defensed, and three interceptions.

Averett joined the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022 and made seven appearances, six of which were starts. He also played for the Detroit Lions (2023) and San Francisco 49ers (2023).

 

He has dealt with injuries the last two seasons, limiting his playing time.

During his 35 career games as a college football player for Alabama, he recorded 98 tackles—71 of them solo stops—seven tackles for a loss, 17 passes defensed, two forced fumbles, and one interception.
