The Dallas Cowboys, like other NFL teams, will need to make some difficult decisions prior to the start of the season.
Teams must reduce their roster to 53 players prior to the start of the season from the 90 players they are permitted to carry throughout training camp.
Chauncey Golston, a defensive lineman with the Cowboys, is included in David Kenyon of Bleacher Report’s list of the “best” players who could be removed from teams before to the 2024 season.
Chauncey Golston should benefit theoretically from the defensive line turnover.
Dallas let go of Neville Gallimore and Jonathan Hankins, freeing up a lot of snaps up front, according to Kenyon.
“But there’s no doubt that the Cowboys will give rookies Justin Rogers and Denzel Daxon a thorough examination.” Going into his fourth season in Dallas, the 26-year-old Golston was chosen by the team in the third round of the 2021 draft.
The 6-foot-5 defensive lineman has spent his whole three-year career in Dallas as a reliable backup, despite never having started for the Cowboys.
In the last three seasons, Golston has amassed at least 22 tackles while missing just four games overall. During the 2021 season, Golston played in 41% of defensive snaps; the following two seasons, he played in 23% and 29% of defensive snaps, respectively.
The former University of Iowa star will soon begin the last year of his rookie deal. Golston has recorded 79 tackles, nine quarterback hits, 3.5 sacks, and three game starts in his career through three seasons of play.
Golston has missed just four games altogether over the past three seasons while racking up at least 22 tackles. Golston participated in 41% of defensive snaps in the 2021 season; in the two seasons that followed, he participated in 23% and 29% of defensive snaps, respectively. The final year of the former University of Iowa standout’s rookie contract is about to start.

Why Cowboys Could Still Cut Chauncey Golston
The Cowboys do, however, have a variety of alternatives along the defensive line, as Kenyon points out, with the arrival of undrafted free agent Denzel Daxon and seventh-round draft pick Justin Rogers.
Actually, Golston’s name has been brought up previously this offseason as a possible cut candidate.Golston was another veteran who Sayre Bedinger of FanSided noted would lose their roster place to a rookie back in March.
I think Chauncey Golston is a perfect example of what I meant when I mentioned earlier—that the Cowboys have been loyal to guys,” writes Bedinger.
“This was once a top-100 pick, but he hasn’t really developed into anything significant for the Cowboys. The team even had to reload on the defensive line to make up for his lack of production.”
Given that Golston is not a very valuable element of the Cowboys’ defensive line rotation, Dallas may decide to eliminate Golston off the roster and keep one or two of the rookies.
Every season, these kinds of transactions take place when younger, less expensive players with greater promise replace aging veterans.
