Since the Las Vegas Raiders are still in the early phases of their offseason, there hasn’t been much development in the quarterback duo of Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell.

O’Connell will get the initial reps during practice, according to head coach Antonio Pierce, but Minshew will undoubtedly get his fair share of looks.

Despite the fact that the two quarterbacks will be competing for the starting job this offseason, O’Connell has expressed his admiration for Minshew and that there is no ill will between them.

“Every day in everything we do, there’s competition, but at the end of the day, there’s a mutual respect,” O’Connell remarked of Minshew in an episode of “The Rush With Maxx Crosby” that aired on May 21.

“I mean, my narrative is amazing, and his story is unbelievable too, considering where he came from, what he’s been through, and the kind of career he’s had in the NFL. Therefore, all that can be said is respect for those who have had to learn the hard way as well as the ability to witness him accomplish it.

It’s been nice to get to know him, even if I was a huge admirer of him before we even met because of his story and other wild stories about him. Although Minshew and O’Connell are getting along for the time being, it will be intriguing to watch how the competition plays out.

Luke Getsy Talks QB Competition

Luke Getsy, the offensive coordinator, is one of the Raiders’ new offensive coordinators. He is not loyal to any quarterback on the team and will play a significant role in determining the starting quarterback.

He can’t evaluate the role just yet because it’s just too early in the process. Getsy stated, “I believe it’s the assessment of the performance as a whole,” at his press conference on May 21. There are numerous components to it.

I believe it’s the way the operation runs, ensuring that the football is taken care of before moving on to the production phase. This seems like a drawn-out process.

We’re just getting started on it. Everyone is attempting to understand what it is that we are attempting to do, not just the Qs.

“We have a solid crew in that room, which is a plus. These guys are fierce competitors and hard workers, but they’re also excellent teammates. Thus, this has been a lot of fun in the beginning.

Who Has the Edge for the Starting Job?

The Raiders may be leaning toward one candidate, but they won’t really know who has the advantage until training camp begins. It’s unclear how the team will use Minshew on the bench.

This offseason, the organization paid him $25 million over two seasons, and he has more experience than O’Connell. The team will give O’Connell a good shot at the position, but given his contract, Minshew is likely to receive the nod if it’s close. For O’Connell to have a legitimate shot at starting this season, he must appear to be superior to Minshew.
