Former Detroit Lions Player Faces Animal Cruelty Charges

Isaiah Buggs, a former defensive lineman for the Detroit Lions, is currently involved in a legal dispute because he is the subject of two misdemeanor warrants in Alabama for suspected animal abuse.

The accusations stemmed from the upsetting finding of two dogs purportedly left alone on a porch at a Buggs-related property, without access to food or water. Another dog was discovered in a cage, exposed to the sun, without food or drink. This is based on civil paperwork Tuscaloosa Patch was able to get, which were filed on Wednesday.

On March 28, Buggs’ rental house’s back porch was reported to the police as having dogs left behind. According to witnesses, Buggs left the residence on March 19 after failing to pay more than $3,100 in rent.

When the City of Tuscaloosa Animal Control officers arrived at the property, they found a screened-in back porch with a grey and white pitbull that was starved of food and water.

They also came onto a black Rottweiler mix that was kept in a metal cage in the middle of the sun without access to food or water. The dogs had been left on the back porch for at least ten days, according to a neighbor.

Second-degree cruelty to dogs or cats has resulted in the acquisition of two misdemeanor warrants. On March 28, authorities apparently attempted to get in touch with Buggs but were unsuccessful.

Isaiah Buggs, who was an important member of the Lions in the 2022 NFL season, had participated in all 17 games, starting 13, and made a significant defensive strategy contribution.

Buggs was released by the Lions on January 2, 2023, after a less active season in which he only appeared in 10 games and eventually became a healthy inactive

After that, he signed on to the practice squad of the Kansas City Chiefs, but so far this season, he hasn’t played for the team.

Following the previous season, he was signed to a futures contract by the Chiefs.

The event is part of an alarming pattern of legal troubles for NFL players, which was brought to light by Cam Sutton’s quick release from the Lions following a Florida domestic abuse accusation.

Given these grave accusations, Buggs’ future in professional football is still up in the air while the legal process carries on.
