“I am grateful for Art Rooney II’s support during my first 17 years in Pittsburgh and for this contract extension.”

Mike Tomlin, the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, completed 17 seasons in a row without a losing campaign since he began coaching. This season was no exception. Now that the team has extended his contract for another three years, he may continue that run.

The NFL team announced that Tomlin’s leadership will continue through at least the 2027 season.

We have signed Coach Mike Tomlin to a three-year contract extension.

In a written statement, Tomlin said, “I am grateful for this contract extension and thankful for Art Rooney II’s support during my first 17 years in Pittsburgh.” “We are keeping up our hard effort to return to where we belong—long-term postseason success with the ultimate aim of capturing the seventh Lombardi Trophy for the team.

“I can’t wait to start the 2024 season and give our fans an unforgettable year.” Being the head coach with the longest tenure in the league is a distinction for Tomlin.

Entering his 18th season, the Steelers coach has never experienced a losing campaign. He made NFL history in December 2023 when he became the first head coach to begin a tenure with at least 17 straight winning seasons.

Despite being the first to accomplish this achievement, he still needs two more winning seasons to tie the record held by former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick (19 wins). If he equals that, he will be tied with Tom Landry (Dallas Cowboys), who had 21, after two more seasons with a record of at least.500.

Steelers President Art Rooney II stated, “Mike Tomlin’s leadership and commitment to the Steelers have been pivotal to our success during his first 17 years as head coach.”

“We are confident in his ability to lead the team back to winning playoff games and championships while carrying on our successful tradition, which is why we are extending his contract for an additional three years.”

Tomlin has guided the Steelers to two Super Bowl appearances (XLIII and XLV), seven AFC North championships, and eleven postseason berths throughout his tenure as head coach.

Super Bowl XLIII was won by the team with a 27-23 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Tomlin’s record throughout the regular season is 173-100-2 (.633).
