Reid Sinnett, an experienced quarterback, was hosted by the Dallas Cowboys for a workout. Reid Sinnett, an experienced quarterback, was called in by the Dallas Cowboys for a July 27, 2024, session.

According to Nick Harris of DallasCowboys.com, Sinnett threw to three free agent receivers during the tryout: Terrell Bynum, Kelvin Harmon, and Deontay Burnett.

Whether the Cowboys will sign Sinnett for training camp is still up in the air. After the exercise, Dallas signed Burnett and Harmon to new contracts but CeeDee Lamb is still holding out.

Sinnett completed 32 touchdown passes in 2019 while throwing for 3,538 yards at the University of San Diego. Sinnett also added six touchdowns on the run and 174 yards of rushes.

Sinnett spent the 2023 season as a member of the Cincinnati Bengals. Sinnett also played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Miami Dolphins, and Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL.

Unless there was an untimely injury at the position for the Cowboys, Sinnett would have a difficult time making the final roster.Cooper Rush and Trey Lance are vying to be Dak Prescott’s backup quarterback.

Sinnett would struggle to make the final roster unless the Cowboys suffered an unfortunate injury at the position.

The competition to be Dak Prescott’s backup quarterback involves Cooper Rush and Trey Lance. “He is fairly accurate when the pocket is clean, and he will take what defenses give him.”

Because of his limited mobility, he won’t be particularly effective under pressure from the NFL. Sinnett is intelligent and has developmental characteristics. He could be considered for the practice squad.

The quarterback would probably be brought in for depth during training camp drills and preseason games, even if Sinnett signs with the Cowboys. Whether Dallas will maintain both Lance and Rush on the 53-man roster, like they did in 2023, is the more important question.

According to Jon Machota of The Athletic, the Cowboys will cut Rush before Week 1 and elevate Lance to the position of backup quarterback.

In an article titled “Cowboys 53-man roster projection: Trey Lance vs. Cooper Rush, decisions on the D-line,” published July 3, 2024, Machota stated, “The Cowboys are unlikely to keep three quarterbacks, so the backup job comes down to Lance and Cooper Rush.”

The Cowboys are hopeful that Lance can live up to the potential that earned him the third overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, despite Rush’s greater accomplishments in NFL games.

Lance will seize every chance to secure the backup position. To lose the job, he would have to have a terrible preseason and camp appearance.
