The Detroit Lions have elevated two wide receivers for Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The team announced that Tom Kennedy and Tim Patrick are now eligible to play, joining Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, and Kalif Raymond in the wide receiver lineup.
The Lions are dealing with some injuries at the position, with rookie Isaiah Williams ruled out and Jameson Williams listed as questionable with an ankle injury. However, Jameson Williams is expected to play after participating in limited practice sessions throughout the week.
Kennedy provides extra depth across all receiver positions. Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson explained that Kennedy is a versatile player who can cover any spot in the receiving lineup, which earned him a spot in last week’s game.
This marks Kennedy’s second elevation from the practice squad. With only one more allowed this season, any future appearances would require him to be signed to the 53-man roster.
The more notable elevation is Tim Patrick, who signed with the Lions after being released by the Broncos. Patrick, a six-year veteran, missed the last two seasons due to injuries but had two 700-yard seasons before that. He’s expected to compete for the WR-X role, though his involvement may be limited given his recent addition to the team.
