A former Lexington hoops star is coming back home.

The University of Kentucky men’s basketball program is welcoming Jaylan Green, a familiar face from the local basketball scene, to its staff for the 2025–26 season. The Frederick Douglass High School graduate will join the team as a graduate assistant, according to an announcement he made on social media.

Green’s basketball roots run deep in Lexington. As a senior at Douglass, he averaged 16.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, earning widespread recognition for his performance. He chose to stay nearby for college, suiting up for Transylvania University, where he quickly became a standout in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC).

At Transy, Green earned First-Team All-HCAC honors in back-to-back seasons (2022–23 and 2023–24), leading his team in scoring, steals, and three-point shooting. He posted 17.8 points and 4.4 rebounds per game as a senior.

He later transferred to Ohio Dominican University, where he pursued a Master’s degree in Data Analytics while continuing to compete on the court. In his final season, Green played in 28 games, contributing 5.8 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists over an average of just over 16 minutes per game.

Now stepping into coaching, Green returns to his hometown — not as a player, but as part of the Wildcats’ support staff. His journey from Lexington high school courts to Rupp Arena’s bench reflects Kentucky’s ongoing commitment to nurturing coaching talent with strong in-state roots. His return is one the Big Blue Nation will undoubtedly embrace.
