The Los Angeles Lakers have been aiming to enhance their lineup this offseason after failing to advance beyond the first round of the playoffs. They were knocked out by the Minnesota Timberwolves in only five games.

Los Angeles aimed to acquire Bradley Beal after he was released by the Phoenix Suns, but he rejected them for their city rivals. Instead, he ultimately signed with the Clippers.

The two LA teams weren’t the only ones interested in Beal, but they might have been the leaders in the chase. An NBA insider disclosed his reasons for selecting the Clippers over the Lakers.

Brett Sigel of ClutchPoints reports that Beal was not very interested in the Lakers after they indicated they wanted him to serve as their sixth man and play off the bench.

The main reason Beal joined the Clippers is that he has an opportunity to be a starter there. Beal firmly thinks that he remains a player of starting quality.

During the previous season, the Suns relegated Beal to the bench following a period of subpar performance and numerous games missed because of injuries. He aims to have an improved season with the Clippers.

Los Angeles had no intention of sending Austin Reaves to the bench after he achieved career-highs in nearly all statistical categories. He has undoubtedly secured his place in the starting lineup.

Luka Doncic is another starting guard, and there’s no chance he’ll be sitting on the bench. Beal believes he has a greater opportunity to begin with the Clippers, which is why he’s there.
