New York police are asking for the public’s assistance as they search for a suspect accused of shooting New York Jets cornerback and special teams player Kris Boyd.
Authorities released surveillance photos of the individual they believe opened fire outside a business on West 38th Street near Seventh Avenue shortly after 2 a.m. on Sunday.
According to ESPN, Boyd remained hospitalized in critical but stable condition as of Monday.
Investigators are still trying to determine what led to the shooting. No one else was hurt. The New York Post reported that the gunman fired twice after getting into an argument with the 29-year-old defensive back.
The Jets — who fell to the Patriots on Thursday night — said they are aware of the incident involving Boyd but have chosen not to comment further.
Jets linebacker Jermaine Johnson posted a message on X asking for prayers for Boyd and his family, calling for healing and protection for his teammate.
Boyd has spent this season on injured reserve, his first year with the Jets, and had been expected to play a major role on special teams under new head coach Aaron Glenn, formerly the Lions’ defensive coordinator.
Before joining New York, Boyd played four seasons with the Vikings after being drafted out of Texas in the seventh round in 2019. He has also been part of the Cardinals’ and Texans’ organizations.
