Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur is giving credit where it’s due. As the Detroit Lions prepare for a crucial Week 13 matchup against the Packers, LaFleur offered strong praise for Lions head coach Dan Campbell, who recently assumed playcalling duties in Detroit.

Campbell, who took over offensive playcalling from former offensive coordinator John Morton several weeks ago, has overseen a noticeable shift in Detroit’s offensive rhythm. With the Lions gearing up for a potential division-defining game, LaFleur acknowledged the difficulty of handling playcalling responsibilities and applauded Campbell’s execution in the role.

LaFleur Says Campbell Has Elevated Detroit’s Offense

While the Packers dominated Detroit 27–13 in the season opener at Lambeau Field, LaFleur made it clear that this Week 13 matchup features a very different Lions team.

“I think he’s done a heck of a job,” LaFleur said, noting that Campbell has been putting Detroit’s offensive weapons in the best position to succeed. He added that the Lions’ talented offensive line and the elite play of Jared Goff are major reasons the offense continues to produce.

Goff is playing some of the best football of his career, and LaFleur emphasized the challenge of defending the Lions’ numerous playmakers, including:

Amon-Ra St. Brown, fourth in the NFL in receiving yards (884)

Jameson Williams, whose usage has increased significantly under Campbell

Running backs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery, one of the league’s most dynamic RB duos

Detroit is still adjusting to the loss of tight end Sam LaPorta, but LaFleur stressed that the Lions’ offensive depth remains a major concern for Green Bay.

Campbell’s Playcalling Sparks Increased Usage of Jameson Williams

One of the biggest changes since Campbell took over playcalling has been the rise in Jameson Williams’ involvement. Before Morton’s demotion, Williams’ limited usage was becoming a point of frustration. Under Campbell, Williams delivered two highly productive games before a quiet performance last week.

In Campbell’s first two games as playcaller, Williams recorded 10 receptions for 207 yards and two touchdowns, marking his most consistent stretch of the season.

Detroit’s Defense Quietly Ranking Among the NFL’s Best

While much attention focuses on the Lions’ offense, their defense has also been a surprise strength. Despite multiple injuries, Detroit enters Week 13 ranked 7th in EPA per play, outperforming Green Bay, which ranks 13th in the same category.

On offense, the Packers sit fourth in EPA, while the Lions are right behind them at sixth — setting up a tightly contested matchup where every possession will matter.

NFC North on the Line as Lions and Packers Meet on Thursday

Thursday’s clash could play a major role in determining the NFC North champion. With Detroit’s explosive offensive weapons and a resilient defense, keeping the Lions in check will be a top priority for LaFleur’s Packers.

As both teams fight for division supremacy, LaFleur’s respect for Campbell’s leadership and adaptability underscores just how impactful Detroit’s recent coaching shift has been.
