NFL defensive standout Jeffery Simmons delivered one of the most impressive performances of his career on Sunday, but the celebration ended quickly once he learned about a troubling incident away from the field.
While Simmons was in Santa Clara competing against the San Francisco 49ers, his Nashville-area home was burglarized. The Tennessee Titans later confirmed that local authorities are investigating the break-in.
In a statement, the team said its security staff is working closely with the Metro Nashville Police Department to help locate items taken from Simmons’ residence. Officials noted that no one was inside the home at the time of the incident.
According to police, at least six individuals forced their way into the house by breaking a window.
Simmons addressed the situation on social media, condemning those responsible and expressing relief that none of his loved ones were present during the burglary. He wrote that the perpetrators would ultimately face consequences for their actions.
On the field, Simmons made history despite the Titans’ 37–24 loss. The three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle recorded seven tackles, forced a fumble with a strip sack, and hauled in the second touchdown reception of his NFL career. That rare combination made him the first player since J.J. Watt in 2014 to register both a strip sack and a receiving touchdown in the same game.
The incident adds to a growing list of high-profile burglaries targeting professional athletes while they are traveling for games. Notable NFL players such as Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Joe Burrow, and Shedeur Sanders have experienced similar situations, and athletes from other sports have also been affected.
The pattern has become serious enough that the FBI issued an alert in December 2024, warning teams and players about organized crime groups targeting athletes’ homes.
