The Los Angeles Rams made one of the most significant moves of the NFL offseason by acquiring star pass rusher Myles Garrett, instantly reshaping their defense and generating league-wide attention.

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell was asked for his reaction to the high-profile trade ahead of Thursday’s OTA session in Allen Park, and his response was brief but telling.

“Good for them,” Campbell said, acknowledging the Rams’ aggressive approach.

He added that the move made sense from a competitive standpoint. “They wanted him, so they went and got him,” Campbell noted, praising the Rams’ decision to land one of the NFL’s most dominant defensive players.

Campbell also had high regard for Garrett’s talent, calling him “a hell of a player.”

With the blockbuster deal drawing attention across the league, Campbell was also asked whether the Lions might consider making a similar splash via trade for a superstar player. Detroit has primarily built its roster through the NFL Draft and selective free-agent signings rather than major in-season or offseason trades.

However, Campbell declined to speculate on any potential future moves. “I guess I’ll tell you when that time happens,” he said, leaving open the possibility without committing to any specific approach.

The Lions have been active this offseason but remain committed to their long-term team-building philosophy under Campbell and general manager Brad Holmes. The organization has focused on developing homegrown talent and strengthening its young core.

That core includes key contributors such as Jared Goff, Aidan Hutchinson, Jahmyr Gibbs, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Brian Branch, and Kerby Joseph—players who have helped establish Detroit as one of the NFL’s most promising teams.

While the Lions are not currently chasing blockbuster trades, Campbell’s comments reflect respect for the Rams’ bold move and the impact a player like Myles Garrett can have on a franchise.
