Texas Tech will face New Mexico in 2027, renewing a long-running regional rivalry while keeping the Red Raiders on track for six home games.

On September 18, 2027, the Red Raiders will host New Mexico at Jones AT&T Stadium, reviving a rivalry that began nearly a century ago.
The game will be the 46th meeting between Texas Tech and New Mexico, and the first time the programs have met since 2012.
In 2027, New Mexico will take the place of North Texas on Texas Tech’s schedule. The Red Raiders were scheduled to visit Denton, however Texas Tech cancelled that road match in April in order to maintain at least six home games for the 2027 season.
This is a nostalgic game for supporters in Lubbock, with a long past. Texas Tech has a commanding 37-6-2 all-time record over the Lobos, having won 14 of the previous 15 encounters.
The Red Raiders defeated New Mexico 32-6 in Lubbock in 1931, marking the first game of the series.
The home-field advantage has been similarly skewed. Texas Tech is 23-2 at home against New Mexico, and the Lobos have lost nine consecutive games in Lubbock.
The most recent meeting between the institutions occurred early in the 2012 season, with Texas Tech cruising to a 49-14 win.
New Mexico is coming off a 9-4 season, adding some interest to the 2027 encounter beyond just a standard non-conference scheduling change.
The programs used to be regular opponents, meeting every year from 1971 to 1986 when Texas Tech was a member of the Southwest Conference.
Since the Red Raiders joined the Big 12 in 1996, they have played nine times.
Texas Tech still has one slot available on its 2027 non-conference schedule and is seeking to add a power conference opponent.
