The Toronto Blue Jays have had a dismal start to the 2026 MLB season, with an 18-24 record approximately a month and a half into the season. The Blue Jays are coming off a painful Game 7 defeat to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series last season, and doubts about how the club will recover from such a crushing setback have not been allayed so far this season.
One of the Blue Jays’ recent highlights has been the return of starting pitcher Trey Yesavage, who missed the first part of the season due to injury but has since made three starts this year, each one looking promising.
Recently, Blue Jays manager John Schneider was absolutely honest about how pleased he has been with Yesavage so far this year.
“We’re still treating him like we’re building up early in the season a little bit, but he’s been so good and impressive. Command of the fastball has been quite amazing… There will be some modifications made, and he will have to cope with them, which I believe he is doing effectively. He’s picked up exactly where he left off,” according to Schneider, speaking on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM on X, previously Twitter
.
Yesavage established himself as a crucial component in the Blue Jays’ bullpen during their trip to the World Series last year, but he had to miss what would have been his first many starts this year owing to a shoulder problem.
However, as Schneider pointed out, he seems to have picked up right where he left off and is one of the few rays of light for the Blue Jays in what has been a terrible 2026 season.
