A proposal for an NBA offseason trade has been developed that would bring Ja Morant from the Memphis Grizzlies to the Brooklyn Nets.
According to Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report, the Grizzlies and Nets should make the following agreement:
The Brooklyn Nets will gain the No. 3 selection and Ja Morant.
Memphis Grizzlies get the sixth pick, Nic Claxton, and Terance Mann.
This trade concept combines Morant with Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. while providing the Grizzlies with two seasoned players, Claxton and Mann.
The Grizzlies, who dealt Jaren Jackson Jr. to the Utah Jazz this season and failed to qualify for the playoffs, are likely to trade Morant this summer.
Morant averaged 19. 5 points, 3. 3 rebounds, and 8. 1 assists in 20 regular-season games for Memphis, with a 41. 0% field goal percentage, a 23. 5% three-point shooting percentage, and an 89. 7% free throw percentage.
Morant, the 2019-20 Rookie of the Year, has only guided the Grizzlies to the second round of the playoffs once. That was in 2022.
Morant has career averages of 22. 4 points, 4. 6 rebounds, and 7. 4 assists per game.
According to ESPN, Morant has informed others that he is done playing for the Grizzlies, who picked the guard as the second overall choice in the 2019 NBA Draft from Murray State.
Morant, a two-time All-Star, has yet to move on from the Grizzlies’ decision to ban him earlier this season for behavior detrimental to the club.
Morant is still heartbroken over the suspension, according to many league sources, because he felt isolated by colleagues who were instructed to leave the star guard alone so he could deal with the issues that led to the suspension. Following the incident, Morant informed other players throughout the league and some of his previous coaches that he would no longer play for Memphis, according to sources. ESPN reported.
Because Morant does not have a no-trade clause, he has no influence over where the Grizzlies transfer him.
Morant will make $42. 1 million next season and $44 million in the 2027-28 season, the final year of his contract.
