Ipswich Town are on the verge of completing the signing of Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu, with the Ghana international currently undergoing a medical ahead of a reported £20 million move.
The 22-year-old is set to become the latest high-profile player to leave Leicester City following the club’s relegation. His arrival will further strengthen Gary O’Neil’s squad as Ipswich continue their preparations for the new Premier League season.
Fatawu impressed during his time at Leicester after initially joining on loan from Sporting CP in 2023 before making the move permanent. Across all competitions, he scored 16 goals in 100 appearances for the Foxes, establishing himself as one of the club’s most exciting attacking players.
Once the deal is completed, Fatawu will become Ipswich Town’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window. The Tractor Boys have already added Brazilian striker Emersonn from Toulouse in a deal worth around £26 million, while the loan moves of Cedric Kipre and Chuba Akpom have been turned into permanent transfers.
Ipswich are building a squad capable of competing in the Premier League under new head coach Gary O’Neil, who replaced Kieran McKenna after his departure from Portman Road in May. McKenna left after leading the club to another Premier League promotion.
Meanwhile, Leicester City continue to reshape their squad under new manager Russell Martin ahead of their League One campaign. The Foxes have already sold Jeremy Monga to Manchester City and Harry Winks to Cagliari, while Victor Kristiansen has joined Panathinaikos on loan.
In addition, Jannik Vestergaard departed after his contract was terminated by mutual consent, while Patson Daka, Ricardo Pereira and Jordan Ayew were among several senior players released following the club’s relegation.
The signing of Abdul Fatawu would represent another significant statement of intent from Ipswich Town as they strengthen their squad for life back in the Premier League.
