Ipswich Town have reportedly joined the race to sign Fluminense striker John Kennedy, with Premier League newcomers set to battle Lazio, Porto, and FC Köln for the highly-rated Brazilian forward.
According to Sky Sport, via La Lazio Siamo Noi, Lazio have identified the 24-year-old as their top attacking target this summer. The Serie A club are eager to strengthen their frontline after ending their interest in Fiorentina’s Roberto Piccoli and Sassuolo’s Andrea Pinamonti, making Kennedy their preferred option.
However, Ipswich Town’s interest has added another twist to the transfer battle. Following their promotion to the Premier League, the Tractor Boys are looking to reinforce their squad with young talent, and Kennedy has emerged as one of the club’s potential attacking targets.
Lazio have already submitted an €8 million bid for the Fluminense forward, but the Brazilian club are reportedly holding out for €12 million. Reports suggest a compromise could eventually be reached, although the Italian side now face growing competition from Ipswich Town, Porto, and Bundesliga outfit FC Köln.
Porto’s involvement comes as little surprise, with the Portuguese giants having a long history of signing promising Brazilian players before developing and selling them for significant profits.
Previous reports also linked Wolves and Watford with Kennedy, but the latest update suggests the striker and his family favour a move to Rome if Lazio can finalise an agreement with Fluminense.
Kennedy, who stands at 1.73 metres, is known for his intelligent movement, sharp finishing, and ability to exploit spaces inside the penalty area. Since graduating from Fluminense’s academy, he has registered 37 goals and nine assists in 168 appearances for the Brazilian club.
The striker remains under contract with Fluminense until December 2027, meaning any interested club will need to meet the Brazilian side’s valuation to secure his signature this summer.
