After seven years with the Philadelphia Phillies, catcher J. T. Realmuto is now in his eighth year with the team and is having a season that is far from what he had hoped. This past offseason, the 35-year-old veteran agreed to a three-year, $45 million deal that would prolong his time in Philadelphia.
Without a doubt, the Phillies did not receive what they anticipated. Realmuto has not only had trouble remaining healthy, spending time on the 10-day injured list due to a lower back ailment, but he has also failed to perform on the field.
In 31 games, Realmuto has a . 212 batting average, . 284 on-base percentage, . 563 OPS, one home run, and eight RBI. Although he has a history of rebounding as a three-time All-Star, two-time Gold Glove recipient, and three-time Silver Slugger, he may no longer be capable of consistently playing at that caliber.
Realumto has eight RBIs, one home run, a. 563 OPS, a. 212 batting average, and a. 284 on-base percentage over the course of 31 games. With three All-Star selections, two Gold Glove awards, and three Silver Slugger awards, he has the history to make a comeback, but he could be at the point where he can’t consistently play at that caliber.
This week, Realmuto’s subpar campaign suffered another blow on a personal front. Whether on or off the field, he has always been outspoken about the importance of his faith. In order to bring the two together, he organized an event dubbed Faith and Baseball Night at the beginning of the year.
The intention was for Realmuto to give a speech about his religion in front of a live audience at an event he would be hosting this coming Saturday after a game, followed by a concert for fans featuring NEEDTOBREATHE.
On his Instagram story, Realmuto said that the occasion had been postponed. “Due to the dubious logistics of putting on an on field concert, Faith and Baseball Night has regrettably been moved to Saturday, May 23. We will attempt to reschedule the event throughout the 2027 season.
Realmuto stated that fans who purchased tickets for the concert field will get an automatic refund. It’s yet another aggravating moment in a year that has been hard for him.
Since Realmuto had hoped to make the event an annual tradition, this would have been his third time hosting it.
