The BYU Cougars football program strengthened its 2027 recruiting class on Wednesday by adding a prospect who has, in recruiting terms, “blown up” in the previous week or so.
Maa’imoa “Moa” Havili, a defensive lineman who attends Granger High in Utah, declared his commitment to the Cougars on social media on Wednesday night.
Havili, who is 6-foot-3 and weighs over 300 pounds, did not get any scholarship offers until last week, according to On3’s Greg Biggins. However, he performed admirably in the presence of a group of college coaches at two showcase events in Utah last week, resulting in a slew of scholarship offers from Alabama, Michigan, and other Power Four institutions.
However, the only one of those offers that Havili publicly recognized on social media was the one from BYU. Exactly a week ago, Havili wrote: Following a wonderful conversation with @kalanifsitake and @Pouha91, I am delighted to have got an offer from BYU, my dream school.
“It’s insane how quickly everything happened for me,” Havili told Biggins. “I still can’t believe it, but I prayed to God for this to happen, and it’s actually happening for me, so I’m really thankful. “
According to the Deseret News high school sports statistical database, Havili had 102 stops and 12 sacks for Granger last fall.
Havili is the fifth prospect to commit to the Cougars as part of their 2027 recruiting class.
