According to Shams Charania, the Milwaukee Bucks are willing to consider trade proposals and bids for two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo.
We all know that Pat Riley will pursue Giannis vigorously, perhaps doing anything it takes to bring him to Miami. Some NBA insiders believe the Heat are the front-runners to acquire Giannis, and the trade package will be built around Kel’el Ware, Tyler Herro, and three first-round draft picks.
Miami must make some serious adjustments this offseason if they want to be a contender in the East, and they were one of three teams vying for Giannis at this year’s NBA trade deadline. If the Heat can sign Giannis, they will be among the front-runners to compete for an Eastern Conference title next season. The goal here is to pair Giannis with Bam Adebayo to form what is possibly the finest frontcourt combination in the whole NBA.
Concerns About the Fit
Some fans and pundits have questioned how Bam and Giannis will get along on the court. The floor spacing may be problematic. The game is currently played with two stars who are not expert shooters, which may make it harder for the rest of the squad to generate attack. Teams might crowd the lane and form a wall around Giannis, daring both to shoot consistently from three-point range.
Another issue that comes to mind is roster depth. If the Heat obtain Giannis, they will have to deplete their squad, making it difficult to build a competitive roster around him. As stated above, the trade would involve Tyler Herro and Kel’el Ware, but in order to match salaries, the team would most likely have to add Jaime Jaquez and one other player.
Why the Fit May Actually Work
This may leave the Heat extremely shorthanded offensively and without adequate shooting around Bam and Giannis.
Despite some reservations, I believe Bam and Giannis might work quite well together. Gianins has the ability to excel in Miami, and I believe the combination has the potential to be the league’s most dangerous two-way frontcourt. Miami’s identity is already focused on defense, and both Bam and Giannis are great defenders.
Their versatility on that front, as well as their capacity to guard one through five, would boost Miami’s defense. Bam has already established himself as one of the NBA’s finest rotational and perimeter defenders, while Giannis is one of the best help defenders.
I agree with certain of the offensive worries, but the fit may be much better than some believe, particularly given Bam’s development over the last few seasons. Bam has enhanced his mid-range and expanded his game to include the three-point line.
Bam enjoys playing from the elbows, which can create driving opportunities for Giannis. Both Bam and Giannis are outstanding playmakers for their respective roles, and watching these two in transition together may be terrifying. Giannis is among the NBA’s best transition players, and his ability to use his strength and speed to drive downhill will create the floor for the Heat in a manner that they have not experienced since LeBron James was a member of the team.
Bam is one of the NBA’s most athletic bigs, and combining him with Giannis would provide Miami with several opportunities to pick up the pace following defensive stops.
The potential benefit is worth the risk.
The match between Bam and Giannis may not be ideal, but the guideline is to trade for a superstar and sort out the rest afterwards. The benefits of acquiring a superstar like Giannis are always worth the risk. As long as Miami can provide the two with shooters, I feel the Heat will be in a strong position to compete in the East.
